Strikes me that this puts the physical brick built models at something of a disadvantage.Īgree that version of the Balrog scene is very impressive. Many of the digital submissions use a multitude of parts that simply aren’t available in the colors used (the huge gold ring in the ‘Forth Eorlingas’ build for example). One comment that I would have about the challenge is that I think Lego should have separate prizes for digital submissions and actual brick built models. There are very ‘lifelike’ (for want of a better word) versions of Treebeard and Oliphant which I would love to recreate. One of the other Balrog entries has some incredibly detailed dwarven columns that are worth studying.

The Balrog scene is very heavily represented. I think there is an element of tinkering with the images here though (you can see what appears to be fiery glow on various parts of the Balrog). The gradual change in colors on the rockwork to give the impression of object source lighting is a really clever idea. Disappointed too because I am working on a MOC for the challenge and realized mine would not be that good, but still will submit once done.Īgree that version of the Balrog scene is very impressive. I like the Balrog Gandalf scene with the orange bricks representing the light on the rocks.
